Applications

1. Flame Retardants: The largest application of organo-bromine compounds is in flame retardants. They are added to materials such as plastics, textiles, and electronics to reduce flammability and meet safety regulations.
   

2. Pharmaceuticals: Bromine-containing organic compounds are critical intermediates in drug synthesis. Some brominated compounds exhibit antimicrobial, anticancer, and sedative properties.
   

3. Agrochemicals: Organo-bromines are used in pesticides, fumigants, and soil sterilants. Methyl bromide, though largely phased out, was a prominent soil fumigant.
