WHO WE ARE

“It’s all about educating yourself, finding the right dosage, and practicing with intention.”

Beatrix Plaza is the founder and managing partner of CannaTh3rapyNY, LLC. Growing up in a household where homeopathic medicine was practiced, Beatrix grew up with a love of plants and a passion for discovering natural healing techniques. Her introduction to the healing properties of cannabis began at age 12 when she would visit an aunt who grew the plant at her home.

She remembers asking her mom why her aunt’s cigarettes smelled funny. Her mother matter-of-factly told her it was because they ‘weren’t cigarettes and to mind her own business.’ Of course, this only made her more curious. So, the next time she visited her aunt, she asked her what she was smoking. To this her aunt replied, ‘my medicine.’ Beatrix then recalls her aunt saying, “when I smoke this plant, it takes my pain away. It lets me garden, and cook, and dance. It makes me a happier person, and I feel the presence of my mother in the world… I wish I could get Charlotte [her then cat with mouth cancer] to smoke it, she’d be better off too.”

Maybe it was the earnestness in which her aunt said she wished her cat could smoke a joint, but that conversation stayed with her. She knew then, that there was something special about that plant, and she’s respected it ever since.

In 2016, Beatrix was reunited with her former high school sweetheart after he served 4 tours of active duty in the U.S. Armed Forces. At the time of his return from combat, her now husband had been prescribed a series of medications to address the symptoms attached to Massive Depressive Disorder (MDD), Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). As Beatrix recalls, “I began doing research on the drugs he was prescribed; what their purposes were, and what side effects they carried, and more and more, I began to think that there was a natural solution to his condition.” “At this point in my life, I had been volunteering with cannabis organizations, using the plant for my own holistic wellness, and continually doing research on complementary and alternative medicine, so I felt very strongly about giving cannabis a chance to address his symptoms. I thought – ‘this plant could change our lives.’” After months of trial and error, and blow ups that Beatrix describes as having almost “destroyed the relationship,” the two found calm after the storm. “It wasn’t easy, but we put in the work, we did the research, and we were able to transition him entirely off of his prescription medications by utilizing the medicinal properties cannabis.”

Beatrix founded CannaTh3rapyNY, LLC as a vehicle to connect a community of people seeking educational and supportive resources to achieve self-healing and balance through intentional cannabis use. “I describe myself as a Canna-enthusiast, and as a former educator, I deeply believe that knowledge is the key to unlocking all things. Cannabis is a powerfully therapeutic plant and when consumed purposefully and responsibly, I deeply believe it can improve all areas of life.” Beatrix facilitates guided meditations and provides educational resources on using cannabis for self-managing holistic wellness. She works with her husband, Andreas Plaza, to promote Cannabis education.
