Diablo 4 Introduces Pets – A Welcome Addition or Cash Grab?

Blizzard has officially introduced buy diablo 4 items pets in Diablo 4, and they’re selling them in the in-game shop. While this is exciting for players who love customization and companionship in their adventures, it raises some concerns about monetization in an already premium-priced game.

Pets in Diablo 4 don’t seem to offer gameplay advantages (yet), serving as cosmetic additions similar to those in Diablo 3. However, their pricing is already a hot topic in the community. Many players feel that given the cost of the base game, expansions, and battle passes, adding another layer of paid content—especially for something as simple as pets—feels excessive. Others argue that it’s purely optional and doesn’t impact the game’s balance, making it a harmless addition.

From a design perspective, pets could enhance the world of Diablo 4, making the dark, hellish landscapes feel a little less lonely. If Blizzard were to introduce a system where pets could fetch loot, similar to Torchlight, it might be seen as a more functional and engaging feature.

What do you all think? Are pets a fun addition, or is Blizzard going too far with monetization? Would you prefer pets to be D4 Materials for Sale earnable in-game rather than locked behind a paywall?
